Beyblade is a brand name for a line of spinner toys originally developed and manufactured by Takara Tomy, the first edition of which dates back to 2000. They include a rope launch device to help the top reach maximum speed. Players eject their peaks into a plastic arena where they strike. The last one on the top left is the winner. The main premise of the Beyblade series is customizable, with interchangeable parts. Both toys and their name have been inspired by “Beigoma”, a traditional spinner. The introduction of the toy corresponded to the broadcast of the animated TV series Beyblade of the same name. In 2001, the series was approved by the Korean toy manufacturer Sonokong. In 2002, Hasbro began selling Beyblade toys internationally (licensed and produced by Takara) with a co-ordinated country by country version of the localized versions of the TV series. In August 2008, Takara Tomy released Beyblade: Metal Fusion; the first incarnation of the toy in three and a half years. The series was followed in 2015 by Beyblade: Burst.
